Sod Watering and Care Guide

Days 1–7

Keep sod consistently moist. Water 2–3 times per day depending on sun and wind, and avoid heavy foot traffic while roots begin to establish.

Week 2

Water once daily with longer sessions to encourage deeper rooting. Light use is okay, but avoid dragging furniture or letting pets tear up edges.

 

Weeks 3–4

Transition to deeper watering 2–3 times per week as the sod roots in. You can return to normal use once the sod feels firmly attached.

 

First mow

Mow once it passes the tug test and reaches mowing height, using a sharp blade and avoiding scalping. Continue deep, consistent watering during dry spells to keep the lawn healthy.
